Summary
Deliverable focus on oil spill detection and monitoring from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) aiming at estimating the areal extent of the oil at sea surface in limited range from starting position and most probably used to widen monitoring capability of oil combatting or monitoring vessels. UAV technology becomes more and more affordable as flying platform, however sensors and systems could be used on UAV-s should be studied and tested together with drifters giving simultaneous ground truth information in certain point at sea. The main objective of UAVs is to provide operational information about (i) areal extent of oil spill and (ii) relative variability within the spill so that the combating could be planned/conducted in the best possible way.
