Report on railway safety indicators

Summary
Report on railway global safety indicators: A review of key problems from a safety perspective faced by Railway IM’s (e.g. slope instability, bridge scour, switches and tracks and structures) using case histories will be compiled and Global Safety Key Performance Indicators (GSKPIs) will be identified. Consideration will be given to how changes in use (increased speed and or loading), climate change etc. might affect the safety performance of infrastructure and cause increased incidence of existing or new heretofore unseen problems. Additionally to the case histories of incidents (which are actually very low for railways), we will develop new concept for GSKPIs, based on the near miss approach which assumes that near misses and accidents have the same relative causal patterns.
