Summary
A new methodology developed by ULEIC that involves mating diploids to overcome hybrid sterility followed by multigenerational crosses will be employed in YEASTDOC This leads to a huge increase in gene assortment relative to simple crosses and a large increase in the diversity of the hybrid population These populations will then be used in a screening and genetics programme to identify hybrids with novel flavouraroma characteristics and the genes responsible for this The project will also develop QTL approaches to map complex traits applying these methods to identify the basis of several important fermentation traits This report will evaluate the effectiveness of these methodologies
